Gostern Wire Rope Pear Socket is a specialized high-strength wire rope termination designed for smooth passage over sheaves and pulleys. The distinctive pear-shaped (streamlined) profile allows the termination to pass over cable sheaves without catching or damaging equipment, maximizing lifting height in crane operations. Manufactured from high-grade cast steel or austenitic manganese steel that work-hardens under impact for extreme abrasion resistance. Available in standard range for general steel wire ropes and S-series for compacted/8-strand ropes. Sizes from 10mm to 56mm wire rope diameter, with WLL up to 45,000kg.

When installed with 2-component resin or molten zinc, this pear socket achieves 100% of the wire rope's breaking strength (5:1 safety factor), significantly outperforming wedge socket efficiencies. It is the standard connection point for C-type quick release links, enabling rapid tool changes for grabs, hooks, and spreaders in port and offshore operations. Widely used in grab cranes, draglines, dredging, shipboard cranes, and heavy lifting where rope terminations must pass over sheaves.
