G416 Open Spelter Socket
Gostern G416 Open Spelter Socket is a high-strength wire rope termination fitting designed for critical lifting, crane hoist lines, and structural cable applications where maximum reliability is required. The open (forked) design features two cheek plates with a pin hole for attachment to shackles, hooks, or other hardware, and allows for visual inspection of the rope entry to verify proper installation . When properly installed with molten zinc or WIRELOCK® resin using the hot socketing process, this termination develops 100% of the wire rope's catalog breaking strength .
Manufactured in compliance with Federal Specification RR-S-550D Type A and ASME B30.26. Constructed from forged steel through 1-1/2" wire rope diameter, and cast alloy steel for sizes 1-5/8" and larger . All sockets 1-5/8" and larger are magnetic particle inspected and ultrasonic inspected. Forged steel sockets have a 5:1 safety factor , while cast sockets are quenched and tempered for low-temperature toughness with Charpy-V > 42 Joule at -20°C . Sizes available from 1/4" up to 4" wire rope diameter. Widely used for crane wire rope terminations, elevator rope attachments, structural cable terminations, and heavy lifting assemblies .
Key Features:
100% Termination Efficiency: When properly installed with zinc or resin .
Open Design: Allows visual inspection of rope entry.
Forged/Cast Construction: Forged steel through 1-1/2"; cast alloy steel for larger sizes .
Multiple Attachment Options: Available with bolt and nut or pin and cotter pin securing .
Surface Finish Options: Hot dip galvanized, blue painted, or self color .
Temperature Range: -40°C to +110°C at 100% capacity
The open spelter sockets are integral anywhere wire rope sling is used for support or movement such as suspension bridge, roof, and oil rig construction scenarios that require rigging tow ropes, anchor ropes, and cables.
