6x61+FC 6x61+IWR Large Diameter Steel Wire Ropes Cable
Gostern 6×61 Large Diameter Steel Wire Rope is manufactured from high quality carbon steel with extra high tensile strength, excellent wear resistance and superior flexibility. This rope features 6 strands of 61 wires each (6×61) , with a large number of fine wires per strand providing exceptional flexibility and fatigue resistance . Available with FC (Fiber Core) for maximum flexibility or IWR (Independent Wire Rope) core for increased strength, crushing resistance and stability in multi-layer spooling . Designed for extra heavy duty applications requiring high breaking load capacity.
This 6×61 Large Diameter Hoist Cable features a single layer strand design (Seale or Filler Wire construction) , offering an excellent balance of strength, wear resistance and flexibility . It is widely used as Mining Hoist Wire Rope for mine shaft hoisting, as Dragline Excavator Rope for stripping shovels and draglines, as High Breaking Load Cable for offshore mooring and towing, as Extra Heavy Duty Wire Rope for large capacity cranes . Available in diameters from 16mm up to 106mm (and larger upon request) , with Grade 1570 MPa to 1960 MPa tensile strength options . The 6×61 construction offers approximately 25-35% higher breaking load than standard 6×19 ropes of the same diameter, while the fine wire construction ensures smoother spooling and reduced wear on sheaves and drums .
Important Note: Do not exceed recommended working load limits. Regular inspection for wear, broken wires, and diameter reduction is required. For multi-layer spooling applications, IWR core is recommended over FC core for better crush resistance . Due to large diameter and weight, proper handling equipment and experienced riggers are required for installation.
We support Custom Length Large Diameter Cable, OEM, ODM and custom drum winding services.

*Note: Min wire breaking force sum = min wire rope breaking force x 1.301(fiber core) or 1.392(steel core)
Every wire rope used for rigging and lifting is comprised of three main components:
Metal wires
Strands formed by the individual wires
A fiber or steel core around which the strands are laid

There are three main types of wire rope cores:
Fiber Core (FC)
Independent Wire Rope Core (IWRC)
Wire Strand Core (WSC)
Fiber cores offer riggers more flexibility due to their natural or synthetic polypropylene fibers. This also means, however, that fiber core wire ropes are more susceptible to crushing and are not suitable for high heat environments.
In environments that exceed 180° F, a steel wire rope core should be used. Steel wire rope cores can be either an independent wire rope or an individual wire rope strand. Steel wire rope cores offer greater support for the strands and wires of the steel cable when compared to fiber cores.
